Indigo

Sydney McGinley

My inspiration comes from the desire to convey good design and draftsmanship. I find that soft pastels allow me to draw and paint simultaneously.

For several years my subject matter has been the human form. I prefer placing the figure in an environment and working in a series in order to develop one idea more completely.

My work has been included in several publications concerned with design, working process and color.

Master Pastelist

The Pastel Society of America—located at the National Arts Club in New York City since 1972—is the oldest pastel society in America. The annual exhibition is held at the National Arts Club and is the premier event for pastel artists in this country and abroad.

Members winning three cumulative awards for their achievement in excellence are awarded the title of PSA Master Pastelist.

Charcoal or Conte Drawings

I draw to discover anew the elements that resonate from the carefully designed and composed plan developed for the next painting.  This action explores and confirms my initial interest in the forms.  I look for unification in straight lines, arabesques, and enclosures.
